Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Frank Schaefer studied mechanical engineering at the University of Kaiserslautern. He did his doctorate and subsequently his state doctorate at the Institute of Engineering Design and Production Technology at the Helmut Schmidt University Hamburg. From 2004 until 2009 Prof. Schaefer worked with the German University in Cairo as Professor and Head of the Department of Engineering Design and Production Technology. In 2009 he became Professor and Chair of Engineering Design and Plastics Technology at the University of Applied Sciences Hamburg. He worked in more than 250 projects in cooperation mainly with automotive, aviation and shipbuilding industry in the fields of design and product development. Since 2013 Prof. Schaefer is Co-Editor of the International Journal of Design Engineering and since 2011 member of the IFToMM Organisation
